Use of cache to speed performance in Ax code

April 29th, 2010

Dynamics AX caches records by their primary key value.

So, be aware that when a query has no joins, and has primary key in its where clause ,then it will hit the cache. Otherwise it won’t. Caching is not supported for the queries with joins.

Construction deaths

April 29th, 2010

There has been enough bad news in the construction sector over the last year but the most chilling statistics have just been released in  Abu Dhabi

Deaths due to:
Fall 28
Road traffic 27
Falling object 20
Electricity 13
Machinery 7
Drowning/submersion 4
Fire/flame or hot substance 3
Suffocation 3
Other transport 3
Total 108

That’s more than 2 a week , every week  in one city

Tihis is the first time such figures have been released by a UAE government body and  comes after the welcome  decision to prepare a federal plan setting minimum standards for construction industries in an effort to reduce the numbers of injuries and deaths. Dr Jens Thomsen, section head of occupational and environmental health at HAAD, said it was important to release the figures so “the community at large” were aware of the extent of the problem. We endorse this transparency and strict enforcement of international standards for health and safety.

It is too late for those who have already lost their lives  and there should be a speedy introduction. Such figures are scandalous and in Europe would be considered cause for criminal action.

Avatar – coming to an office near you sooner than you think

April 29th, 2010

Major advances in computer technology will soon see humans interacting with avatars and controlling computers with gestures similar to the ones seen in the film ‘Minority Report’, says Microsoft’s Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie

He added that all devices containing a chip would be improved following a breakthrough in processors that would allow home users to have access to technology previously only used in super-computers designed for important scientific research and that soon desktop computers could become obsolete He also said that that avatars could be commonplace in the offices of the near future.

XRM Discussion at Convergence 2010

April 27th, 2010

Dynamics CRM is a core application, with a powerful application development capability xRM.that allows for customized tools built on CRM, As one discussion leader at Convergence 2010 put it, “xRM stands for ‘anything relationship   Dennis Ambrose, vice president of operations for ADX Studio, presented four suggestions for getting started with xRM:

1. Start small. “I suggest an agile approach to solution development,” said Ambrose. “Start small and iterate quickly. Look for where the largest gain points are.”

2. Assemble a committed delivery team. “The delivery team is critical,” he noted. This means committed executives and a solid partner relationship.

3. Drive adoption and value. This means making sure to make the xRM program easily accessible by employee users, as well as external users, if it’s a special web site, for example.

4. Make use of “the cloud.” Off-site services and servers relieve the need for internal development and security. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a need for internal servers, relying on Sharepoint and premises CRM, Ambrose said. “Together, Sharepoint and CRM provide a rich palette,”

Main strengths identiifed by Gartner analysts:

•Microsoft released Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 worldwide, followed by training of dozens of reseller partners and system integrators, along with the methodologies and templates to speed adoption.

• Microsoft has successfully described its vision of xRM, or application development that allows customers to extend the CRM platform for the needs of the enterprise.

• Customers can choose from a strong set of Microsoft products with which to integrate — such as BizTalk, Office Communications Server and Microsoft Office SharePoint — to foster tight integration and internal collaboration around the customer, and later to support customer communities.
