Microsoft’s AI-powered Purview solution to address governance and security challenges is set to become generally available on Sept. 1.

Purview Data Governance is a brand-new “Purview experience,”

Microsoft describes it as a single platform to help organizations unify their governance, policy, compliance, risk and security efforts. Users can manage and govern all of their data, both structured and unstructured, across their data estate. This includes data from Azure, Microsoft 365, on-premises systems, multi-cloud environments and future SaaS applications.

The focus of Purview Data Governance is to mitigate the growing amount of “fragmented point solutions” that many organizations have deployed as part of their data management strategy.

It aims to centralize: labeling, audit logging, data classification, lineage and management, over multiple platforms, and that includes Microsoft Fabric.

AI is at the heart of Purview Data Governance and is integrated at every point to automate manual tasks, accelerate data curation and enhance data discovery. Data stewards can automatically generate a data quality rule, and data consumers can find data products both by use of natural language.

The Purview Data Governance solution will have some new features for its general availability in September. A preview of Copilot embedded experience in Microsoft Purview will make its way into the platform to assist data management to create enterprise catalogs and to enhance overall data search capabilities.

Other features we can expect are: integration with its own data platform, custom report building from Fabric data, and the ability to scan any Fabric-supported data in Purview

Microsoft will be expanding its partner network to include support for Studio and RELTIO, which Microsoft said will enhance data modeling and management capabilities.
